AU ROUNDUP: Johnson leading, men's golf in 5th at Jerry Pate

BIRMINGHAM ? The No. 6 Auburn men?s golf team is in fifth midway through the second round and sophomore Michael Johnson has a three-stroke lead before play was called off due to darkness on Monday at the Jerry Pate National at Old Overton Golf Club.

The Tigers are 18-over par and trail No. 12 Florida by 10 strokes. No. 1 Alabama is in second at 10-over, followed by No. 24 Clemson (+11) and No. 13 UNLV (+14).

Johnson, who is in first place at 4-under, was tied for first at 2-under after the first round and is currently 2-under after 15 holes in the second round. The Birmingham native leads four players by three strokes.

All-American senior Dominic Bozzelli is tied for 16th at 6-over. Bozzelli shot a 2-over 72 in the first round and is 4-over through 12 holes in the second round. Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy is tied for 20th at 7-over. Mondy is through 12 holes in the second round.

Senior Michael Hebert struggled in the first round of play shooting a 10-over 80, but rebounded nicely in the second round, shooting a 1-over through 12 and tied for 39th. Redshirt sophomore Dan Stringfellow is tied for 42nd at 12-over. After shooting 10-over in the first round, Stringfellow recovered nicely as he is 2-over through 15 in the second round.

The Tigers will conclude the second round Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. before teeing off the third round at 9:20 a.m. ?

BASEBALL

Fall World Series begins Tuesday

The Auburn baseball team will hold a best-of-three Fall World Series this week as the team wraps up its fall team practice schedule.

Game 1 will take place Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., while Game 2 will be Friday at 3:45 p.m. Should a Game 3 be necessary, it will be played on Oct. 23 at 3:30 p.m. All three games will be seven-inning affairs.

Starting for Ty Megahee?s Orange Team will be Trey Wingenter, while Gabe Gross? Blue Team will trot Michael O?Neal to the hill in the opener.

The team will also practice on Wednesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. at Plainsman Park.?
