Suburban splendor: Sugar Land plans 6500-seat concert venue ...

Soon there will be little reason to leave the suburbs: The City of Sugar Land announced on Wednesday?that it approved a Letter of Intent for the development of a concert and performing arts facility.

ACE Sugar Land, LLC now has the funding and the go-ahead to begin programming and schematic design on a 6,500-seat signature facility, which will eventually "be financially feasible and operationally self-sustaining."?City officials first entered into exclusive discussions with ACE Sugar Land?in May 2011.

The forthcoming venue will not be situated on the Imperial Sugar Land development, which also hopes to attract a music venue, but a stone's throw south of it,?as?part of a larger mixed-use development on a 21-acre site?near the intersection of Highway 59 and University Boulevard (and?less than 10 miles?from the?Stafford Centre).

A Market Analysis and Feasibility Study conducted in 2008 and updated in 2012 expects a concert and performing arts facility to "promote capital investment, create new jobs, enhance educational opportunities and create unique destination activities attracting local and regional visitors."
