Gmail for iOS adds option to save photos, becomes a smoother operator

Gmail for iOSGoogle's Gmail app for iOS has been docked by some potential adopters for feeling like a poor cousin to other native apps. It may be worth revisiting: the 1.3 update has just arrived with a much-requested ability to save common image attachments to an iOS device's photo collection. Should that not be enough, Google has smoothed out animations and scrolling for iPhone and iPod touch owners. The new version has pushed live for everyone, leaving just a quick download between us and saving our parents' vacation photos for posterity.

(AP) ? Startled awake by an earsplitting fireworks blast at 6 a.m., then annoyed by an early morning sound check session by the band that was playing the prerace show, Jimmie Johnson's day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway didn't exactly get off to a winning start.

It ended just fine, though ? with Johnson making plenty of noise of his own.

Johnson stamped another exclamation point on his racing resume Sunday, a dominant drive that ended with his fourth career Brickyard 400 victory.

Afterward, Johnson was able to laugh about how annoyed he was by the aerial bomb blast that signaled to fans that the track's gates were open ? so annoyed, in fact, that he complained about it with a post on his Twitter account.

"I thought the motorhome next to me blew up," Johnson said. "I was looking for a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. I guess getting up earlier than I wanted to let me prepare for the day and get ready."

Johnson said he got over it quickly, and that he respects that the big boom is part of the track's tradition.

And he'd better respect Indy tradition, because he's now a big part of it.

With the win, Johnson joined Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon as the only NASCAR drivers to win four times at the historic 2.5-mile track, which has hosted stock car racing since 1994.

The victory also puts Johnson among some top names in the track's record books.

Only three drivers have won four Indianapolis 500s: A.J. Foyt, Rick Mears and Al Unser Sr.

Formula One ace Michael Schumacher won the U.S. Grand Prix five times on Indy's road course configuration.

"I'm able to join racing legends, my heroes and people I looked up to my entire life," Johnson said. "To join them was a huge, huge honor."

Johnson took it all in after the race, taking a victory lap in a pace car with his wife, his daughter and his crew guys all piled on board.

"You can actually soak in the moment, and look around and realize that you're at the Brickyard ? and won ? was really special," Johnson said.

And while his daughter, Genevieve, enjoyed playing with a microphone during Johnson's post race news conference, they couldn't convince her to join in as they completed the tradition of kneeling to kiss the yard of bricks at the start/finish line.

"She wasn't into it," Johnson joked.

Johnson also won the Brickyard in 2006, 2008 and 2009.

"They're that good, and they deserve it," Gordon said.

Kyle Busch finished second, followed by Greg Biffle, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Gordon. Pole sitter Denny Hamlin was sixth.

Nobody had a car capable of challenging Johnson, who led 99 of 160 laps.

"It didn't really matter if you were in front of him or not, he was going to pass you in about four or five laps anyway," Biffle said. "His car was just really, really good."

Team owner Rick Hendrick said the win was a testament to the combined talents of Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus.

"I think the equipment is so equal today, but you've got to look at the talent Jimmie has and the talent Chad has and the pit crew and everything else, the feedback, the communications," Hendrick said. "I've never seen a guy that could drive a car as out of control and make it look in control as Jimmie can."

And as the No. 48 team celebrated a victory, another Hendrick driver solidified his surprising status as a Sprint Cup championship front-runner.

With his fourth-place run Sunday, Earnhardt Jr. took over the points lead ? 14 points ahead of Matt Kenseth, whose day ended early in a crash with Joey Logano.

"We've persevered all year, and we've done good work all year," Earnhardt said. "I think it is a bit of a confidence booster, something I'm proud of because we've worked hard all year and we've got something to show for it."

Earnhardt took the points lead at the expense of Kenseth, whose car was banged-up and smoldering after he tangled with Logano.

"It is crazy there at the end," Kenseth said. "You could see the wreck happening and I was just hoping I wasn't going to be in it."

It also was a rough day for Carl Edwards, whose engine began losing power only a handful of laps into the race.

In his first race with new crew chief Chad Norris, Edwards qualified second but began dropping in the field after an apparent engine malfunction. Edwards finished 29th, left Indianapolis 12th in the points and is in danger of missing NASCAR's season-ending Chase.

"We have to take chances," Edwards said. "We have to go race. We can do that, we can race like that. It will actually be a big relief in a way because there is no other choice. We just go race for wins. I wouldn't bet against us. We can do it."

Phillies send Pence to Giants

Philadelphia Phillies right fielder Hunter Pence catches a fly ball hit by Milwaukee Brewers' Jeff Bianchi in the eighth inning of a baseball game, Wednesday, July 25, 2012, in Philadelphia. The Phillies won 7-6. (AP Photo/Tom Mihalek)

(AP) ? Hunter Pence hopes this sequel has a better ending.

The Philadelphia Phillies traded the two-time All-Star right fielder to the San Francisco Giants for three players on Tuesday. It's the second time in two years Pence went from last place to first place right before the non-waiver trade deadline.

The Phillies got outfielder Nate Schierholtz, minor league catcher Tommy Joseph and minor league right-handed pitcher Seth Rosin.

"Thank you Philadelphia for all your support and passion. Excited to see what awaits me in San Francisco!" Pence wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, the cost-cutting Phillies sent two-time All-Star center fielder Shane Victorino to Los Angeles for two pitchers.

Pence is batting .271 with 17 homers and 59 RBIs this season. He fills a major need for the Giants, giving them a right-handed hitter with power.

Philadelphia acquired Pence from Houston on July 29 last year for the same reason San Francisco wanted him. The Phillies were desperate for a right-handed power hitter to bat fifth behind Chase Utley and Ryan Howard. Pence fit the description perfectly. He batted .324 with 11 homers and 35 RBIs in only 54 games for Philadelphia.

The Phillies won a franchise-record 102 games and captured their fifth straight NL East title, but lost to St. Louis in the NLDS.

Now they rebuild and Pence gets another chance at the postseason.

"I don't think anyone really anticipated the season that's gone on," Pence told reporters in Washington after the trade. "It was the perfect storm of injuries and things didn't go right for us, so that's the way the business of the game is and you have to understand that.

"Everything is understood. The Phillies are going in a different direction. We had a great run at it. Now I'm going a different way."

Pence will help replace the injured Pablo Sandoval in the lineup and presumably bat fifth behind Melky Cabrera and Buster Posey. Sandoval was placed on the disabled list last weekend with a hamstring strain.

Schierholtz is hitting .257 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 77 games. The left-handed hitting right fielder likely will get more playing time in Philadelphia the rest of this season. He hit .270 with 23 homers and 119 RBIs in 503 games over parts of six seasons in San Francisco. Schierholtz was 2 for 12 in the 2010 postseason when the Giants upset the Phillies in the NLCS and beat Texas in the World Series.

Joseph was San Francisco's No. 2 ranked prospect by Baseball America. He's hitting .260 with eight homers and 38 RBIs in 80 games for Double-A Richmond. Rosin was 2-1 with 10 saves and a 4.31 ERA in 34 games (five starts) for Single-A San Jose.

Pence is making $10.4 million this season and stands to get a raise in arbitration next year.

The 29-year-old has a career .290 average with 131 homers and 471s RBI in six seasons with the Astros and Phillies. Though he struggled defensively in Philadelphia, his 61 outfield assists since 2008 are second in the majors.

Pence led the Phillies in hits (108), homers, RBIs, runs scored (59), total bases (178) and walks (37).

"I am surprised," Pence said. "You understand the circumstance."

Adrian of US leads 100 free heats at Olympics

(AP) ? Nathan Adrian of the U.S. qualified fastest in the 100-meter freestyle preliminaries at the London Games on Tuesday, when Michael Phelps will try to make more Olympic history in the evening finals.

Adrian won his heat in 48.19 seconds while swimming in a lane next to world-record holder Cesar Cielo of Brazil. World champion James Magnusses was fourth fastest in qualifying.

"It felt good to be that easy in the first 50 and to have a little bit to come home," Adrian said. "Maybe I can go faster, who knows?"

Phelps already has the most gold medals of any Olympian ? 14 ? and eclipsed Mark Spitz's record with eight wins in Beijing four years ago.

Now he could tie Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina's record of 18 career medals in the 200 butterfly final, and he would own the mark outright if the U.S. makes the podium in the 4x200 freestyle relay.

"We have to focus on getting a really good 200 fly and a really good 200 free," Phelps' coach Bob Bowman said. "If he does those things and some other things fall into place, then the result will be (the record)."

Phelps had the morning off while his teammates qualified the U.S. first in the relay heats.

In the 100 free, Cielo, the 2008 bronze medalist, tied for 10th with Konrad Czerniak of Poland in 48.67. Cielo's time was well off his world mark of 46.91 set at the 2009 world championships during the peak of the high-tech body suit craze. Those suits have since been banned.

"It felt a little heavy, actually," Cielo said. "But hopefully tonight I'm going to bring some heat and I'll swim better to make the final."

Gideon Louw of South Africa was second-quickest in 48.29, followed by Sebastiaan Verschuren of the Netherlands in 48.37.

James "The Missile" Magnussen of Australia advanced in 48.38. No other swimmer in a textile suit has gone faster than the 47.10 he posted at his country's trials in March.

But Magnussen's opening leg of the 4x100 freestyle relay on Sunday raised some doubt about whether he can add the Olympic title to his world championship. The Aussies were favored but wound up off the medals podium in fourth.

"I took a fair hit in the relay. I am still trying to bounce back from it," he said. "It hurt my pride as much as anything else. A lot of my competitors have never seen me lose."

Adrian swam the leadoff leg for the Americans in 47.89, going out faster than Magnussen to give the U.S. an early lead. The U.S. settled for silver after Ryan Lochte was caught on the final lap by Yannick Agnel of France.

"It wasn't that I was nervous. I just got too worked up over it," Magnussen said. "I just need to stay relaxed and be confident. They probably think they can beat me, but I am going to fight for this one."

Cielo wasn't ready to write off the Aussie.

"That was one mistake. You can't put those guys out of contention," he said. "I think James is still one of the favorites. I would put him and Agnel down as hands-down the favorites."

Adrian agreed with Cielo, saying that a full day's rest could make a difference.

"They got those first-race jitters out of them and now I would not doubt that they're a lot faster and a lot tougher in the individual," Adrian said.

Agnel tied James Roberts of Australia for 12th in 48.93.

"I didn't sleep much last night," said Agnel, who won the 200 freestyle on Monday. "I feel like an alien. I knew it would be tough to do but I have got all day to recover."

American Cullen Jones advanced to the 16-man evening semifinals in ninth at 48.61.

The other tie was for sixth between Brett Fraser of the Cayman Islands and Pieter Timmers of Belgium at 48.54.

The 4x200 relay final will feature a rematch between the Americans and the French.

The U.S. team of Charlie Houchin, Matt McLean, Davis Tarwater and Conor Dwyer had the fastest time of 7 minutes, 6.75 seconds in the heats ? a whopping 2.43 seconds ahead of the second-place French. Jeremy Stravius, Gregory Mallet, Amaury Leveaux and Clement Lefert clocked 7:09.18.

Phelps and Ryan Lochte are likely to be on the U.S. team for the final, while the French will bring their heavy hitters, too.

Germany advanced in third and Australia was fourth.

In the men's 200 breaststroke heats, Daniel Gyurta of Hungary was fastest at 2:08.71. He won the silver at the 2004 Athens Games.

Michael Jamieson of Britain was second at 2:08.98, followed by teammate Andrew Willis in 2:09.33.

Kosuke Kitajima of Japan, trying to win the 200 for the third Olympics in a row, qualified fifth at 2:09.43. He already failed to defend his title in the 100 breast, finishing fifth.

"I am just rebuilding my motivation for the 200 after what happened in the 100," Kitajima said.

American Clark Burckle was sixth at 2:09.55, while teammate Scott Weltz was seventh in 2:09.67.

In the women's 200 butterfly heats, American Kathleen Hersey led the way in 2:06.41. The U.S. hasn't medaled in the event since 2000 when Misty Hyman stunned Australian Susie O'Neill in Sydney to win gold.

World champion Jiao Liuyang of China, the 2008 silver medalist, was second-quickest at 2:07.15. Jemma Lowe of Britain had the home fans cheering loudly when she qualified third at 2:07.64.

American Cammile Adams was eighth. Also advancing to the evening semifinals were defending Olympic champion Liu Zige in 11th; 2008 bronze medalist Jess Schipper of Australia in 12th; and 2004 gold medalist Otylia Jedrzejczak of Poland in 16th.

Ellen Gandy of Britain, the silver medalist at worlds, was 17th and missed the semis by one spot.

Japan factory output in unexpected fall for June

Japan's factory output turned down unexpectedly last month, official data showed Monday, stoking concerns that turmoil overseas is damaging a recovery in the world's third-largest economy.

The output decline came amid growing fears about the fiscal situation in Europe -- a major market for Japanese products -- and a strong yen hurting demand for products from the nation's factories.

Industrial production in June edged down 0.1 percent from the previous month, said the ministry of economy, trade and industry -- smaller than a revised 3.4 percent fall in May but well short of market expectations for a 1.6 percent rise.

Underlining the downward trend, data also showed that factory output declined 2.2 percent in the April to June quarter from a year earlier.

"Industrial production appears to be flat (in June)," the ministry said in its monthly report, downgrading its earlier assessment in May, which said production was on a recovery path.

The June decrease was largely due to falling output from automakers and other transport equipment manufacturers, the electronics industry, and the iron and steel sector, it said.

A survey of manufacturers released with the production data was mixed with firms expecting factory output to rise 4.5 percent in July and fall 0.6 percent in August.

The latest figures came after central bank and government officials said Japan's economy appeared to be gaining traction, although they warned that weakness in Europe was the biggest threat to any recovery.

"Economic growth is on a much weaker trend than what the government and the Bank of Japan are telling us to believe," said Satoshi Osanai, economist at Daiwa Institute of Research in Tokyo.

"Any recovery will be temporary and the economy will continue to languish for months ahead. Exports to the US are already at high levels and have little room for additional growth," he said.

Osanai added that the positive effects of a temporary government subsidy for eco-friendly cars "have run their course".

However the data appeared to have little impact on investors who pushed up the benchmark Nikkei 225 index by 0.80 percent on Monday.

Japanese industry is facing major challenges after the country shut down its nuclear reactors in the wake of last year's atomic crisis, with industrial users being asked to make deep cuts in energy consumption.

All 50 of Japan's nuclear power stations were switched off after the March 11 tsunami, which swamped reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi plant and sent them into meltdown.

Despite widespread anti-nuclear sentiment the government later approved a plan to restart two reactors, which have now come online.

Manufacturers were hammered by last year's natural disasters, while the strong yen -- which hit record highs against the dollar last year -- has hurt exports.

Europe, a key market for everything from Japanese televisions and DVD players to cars and machinery, remains at the top of policymakers' concerns, with officials repeatedly saying the eurozone crisis was the biggest threat to economic recovery.

Naoki Murakami, chief economist at brokerage Monex, said Japanese manufacturing was not in as bad condition as the headline index suggested, but "there are signs that US-bound automobile exports that had led the production until early spring began to lose steam".

"We should pay attention to risks of outlook downgrades by major automakers when they announce results this week," he said in a note.

Chris Cabrera of Xactly: Making Sales ... - Small Business Trends

Most of us want more sales, right? ?But as a company grows, the complexities of managing sales quotas and calculating sale commissions also grow. ?That?s why it?s so important to have good systems so that you can design best-in-class sales compensation plans and automate the calculations so as not to get bogged down in doing it manually with spreadsheets.

In this interview, I?d like to introduce you to Chris Cabrera of Exactly. ?Xactly is a Web-based application to automate and keep track of sales compensation ? and even integrate with your QuickBooks data, thereby avoiding duplicate data entry.

* * * * *

Chris Cabrera of XactlySmall Business Trends: Can you tell us a little bit about your personal background?

Chris Cabrera: About 14 years ago, I started with a company selling on-premise solutions, big heavy expensive on-premise solutions that solved the sales compensation problem.

Seven years ago I embarked on starting this company, Xactly, to really focus on smaller companies and to do it all on the Cloud. Today, we have 500 customers that include companies with two reps, 10 and 50, all the way up to thousands.

Small Business Trends: What kind of challenge is it, from a small business perspective, to handle sales compensation?

Chris Cabrera: For years small businesses have been precluded from being able to take advantage of these automated solutions to handle it.

A lot of these smaller companies don?t have a dedicated comp analyst or compensation manager. ?But the challenges are no less difficult and the benefit is no less great.

What is now happening is we are seeing small businesses waking up to the fact that they can now afford to use the best in class, the best practices, and the best software solutions that are in the cloud. ?The same ones that these giant public companies use.

When you think about sales comp, we are not talking about insignificant dollars, right? I mean if you are paying sales reps, chances are you are paying those reps $50,000 to $100,000 a year to sell your wares.

That is a lot of dollars that the company is spending. ?Yet, the way these sales comp plans are designed, often they are done in the back room and at the last minute. ?Again, by the CEO or the VP of sales. ?These are smart folks, but that is not their area of expertise.

So what we said to these SMBs is, ?Hey, this is what we do for a living and this is all we do. ?So why don?t you let us help you design better plans that will drive better performance??

Small Business Trends: Paying people on time, right away and what they are expecting, that goes along way to keep them happy I assume?

Chris Cabrera: It does. ?I?m always amazed that the paradigm today is that companies literally pay four or five weeks in arrears. ?They are at the end of their month or their quarter, then they start doing the calculations, and about four weeks later, they are giving their reps a statement with their check.

In the Xactly world, those reps can see, day by day, through the month or the quarter how they?re doing. ?Even if they are using a CRM tool, they can begin to look at a deal prior to them even closing it. ?They can do these ?what if? scenarios that we have. ?The ?show me the money? button where they can say, ?How much can I earn if I close this deal??

Small Business Trends: What kind of things should companies be on the lookout for when they develop a sales compensation plan?

Chris Cabrera: Some of the common pitfalls are people that tried to use the compensation plan do to too many things. As a quick example, I have gone into companies where they are using valuable compensation dollars and they are paying on deals only if it was put into CRM, as an example, right? So what they are trying to do is say, ?I want to improve adoption of CRM so I am going to use compensation dollars to enforce that.? ?That is not a good practice, that is a management practice that should be handled by management.

You should not use your valuable compensation dollars for that purposes. What you should use your valuable compensation dollars for is driving whatever is in your business that makes you better. It is selling more widgets; is it selling more profitable widgets; it is discounting less; is it getting better payment terms; is it getting more cash up front.

I mean, everybody?s challenges are different. ?But comp can be used if used correctly and, by the way, it can change. ?It should change over time depending on the needs of the business change.

Small Business Trends: You say that CRM adoption is improved, but it should not be on the sales compensation plan, right?

Chris Cabrera: Correct. I mean you shouldn?t use the valuable dollars that you pay to drive the behavior, to get them to adopt CRM.

What our customers tell us is once they have installed Xactly on top of the CRM tool, the reps now have a reason to go into their CRM more often because they are going to see all of their commission?s right through the CRM tool. They have a reason to go into this CRM tool and make the data more accurate because they want to do these ?show me the money? exercises to see how much money they can earn

Small Business Trends: You recently announced integrations with QuickBooks. How does that impact how small businesses do sales compensation?

Chris Cabrera: QuickBooks is omnipresent. ?Clearly one of the things that you need to pay compensation is order entry data. We already have partnerships with CRM vendors in particular, Salesforce.com, Oracle, and Microsoft. But we realized if we can get a partnership with Intuit, such that the data can be brought directly into Xactly, we are going to make it that much more seamless for SMBs to sign up and, in a very short matter of hours, become live. ?It pulls data right out of Intuit and displays all of the compensation right through their CRM system and then pumps the data right back to the payroll tool.

That whole process today is typically manual, usually in Excel, and is a nightmare. So this partnership with Intuit is really exciting and starting to pay dividends as SMB are coming and adopting this in droves.

Boston mayor?s letter to Chick-fil-A: Stay out of Boston!

A copy of the letter Boston's mayor sent to Chick-fil-A.

On the heels of Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy's controversial public comments against same-sex marriage, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino fired off a letter to Cathy, urging him to abandon plans to expand the fast food chain to his city.

"In recent days you said Chick-fil-A opposes same-sex marriage and said the generation that supports it has 'an arrogant attitude,'" Menino wrote in a letter dated July 20 and published online Wednesday. "Now?incredibly?your company says you are backing out of the same-sex marriage debate. I urge you to back out of your plans to locate in Boston."

"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'" Cathy said in a recent radio interview. "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

In an interview with the Baptist Press published last week, Cathy doubled down on his stance against same-sex unions.

"Guilty as charged," Cathy said. "We are very much supportive of the family?the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

"We know that it might not be popular with everyone," he added, "but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."

All 1,608 of Chick-fil-A's restaurants are closed on Sundays, a day of rest for most Christians.

"Here in Boston, to borrow your own words, we are 'guilty as charged,'" Menino continued. "We are indeed full of pride for our support of same sex marriage and our work to expand freedom to all people."

Earlier this year, students at Northeastern University protested a proposal to put a Chick-fil-A on its Boston campus because of the company's history of supporting anti-gay organizations. The school abandoned its plan.

I Heart New York Salad bars! ? veghotpot

By far the best food we ate when on our honeymoon was in New York, there were healthy options everywhere and it was all very vegetarian friendly. I went from feeling like I?d ballooned up a dress size after over drinking and eating to being on a detox in New York.

Breakfast choices were swapped from an egg bagel or a cheese toastie to bran muffins, fruit salads and egg white omelettes with vegetables and fresh fruit juice! Below is an example of one breakfast I had in Times Square, we had a big day ahead with loads of walking so this breakfast kept me going untill late lunch!

We found this great little deli/ cafe called Speedys (on broadway) and their choices of salads and fruits and rolls was extensive, Oh I loved it. One night after having a few drinks we were hungry and Speedys was still open so I got a salad box filled with fresh lettuce, sprouts, carrots, tomatoes, nuts and seeds, egg and chickpeas! My favourite thing I tried from Speedys was this apple and cinnamon muffin?.SO GOOD!

We also found what looked like just a ?corner shop? from the front but when we went in it had one of the biggest salad bars ever!Around where I live a salad bar usually looks a little bit sad with just the salad basics, some pasta salad, croutons and thousand island dressing. Here are a few photos.

Spoilt for choice really! I just hoped it was all fresh that day, although the quality did look good so I?m sure it was.

The other thing we tried in New York which is probably a tourist attraction in itself was Bubble Tea! I still don?t even know whether I liked it or not to be honest it was just a very new strange experience. We went for a guava flavoured one instead of the milk varieties and the actual drink tasted abit like flat sprite and the big tapioca balls were chewy and didn?t taste of much!
I enjoyed the fun element and the actual drink was refreshing but I?m still not 100% sold on the idea as a whole.

One last thing I really wanted to share was these amazing mushrooms we found when in China Town, I?ve seen different types of mushrooms before but these were like tiny pieces of art work and their colours were beautiful! If anyone can shed any light on what type they are that?d be great!

Whilst in New York we also visited Katz deli so I?ll be posting about that next week :)

Authorities: 11 dead after truck crashes in Texas

At least 11 people died Sunday and another 12 were injured after a pickup truck loaded with passengers left the highway and crashed into trees in rural South Texas, authorities said.

State troopers and Goliad County sheriff's investigators were investigating what prompted the single-vehicle crash and did not immediately know the names and ages of the victims. Gerald Bryant, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told The Associated Press they were various ages and that he personally saw two young children among the dead at the scene.

"This is the most people I've seen in any passenger vehicle, and I've been an officer for 38 years," Bryant said, referring to the chaotic scene.

The white 2000 Ford F-250 pickup was heading north on U.S. 59 on Sunday evening when it traveled off the right side of the highway near the unincorporated community of Berclair in Goliad County and struck two large trees, Bryant said. The 23 people were loaded inside both the truck's cab and bed.

Six of those who died were still inside the truck when emergency crews arrived to find the mangled vehicle, Bryant said.

He said several of the surviving victims had life-threatening injuries. He did not have their official conditions but described them as "very serious." The injured were taken to various hospitals in San Antonio, Victoria and Corpus Christi. Berclair is about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio.

Border Patrol will assist with the investigation.

"It's unknown whether or not (the victims) were illegal, but it's possible," Bryant told the AP.

Crash investigators stayed at the scene into the late hours Sunday to assess the crash, which halted traffic on U.S. 59.

"It's been very chaotic here, and it's very traumatic," Bryant told the San Antonio-Express News earlier from the scene. "It's only first responders out here, and it's very solemn."

A Goliad County sheriff's dispatcher deferred comment to a department spokesperson, who did not immediately return a message left by the AP.

Spirit AeroSystems estimates insurance claim from tornado at $400 ...

Spirit AeroSystems estimates its insurance claim from an EF-3 tornado that tore through its Wichita plant April 14 at about $400?million.

The company took a $55?million charge, or 26 cents per share, related to expenses in the second quarter related to tornado damage, the company said Thursday.

Spirit also took a $10?million charge for fees related to its $1.2 billion in debt refinancing, which closed April 18.

The tornado knocked out power and water, broke gas lines, took production equipment off line and blew off roofs as winds of about 160 mph ripped through the site.

The storm damaged 40 buildings and scattered debris across the complex.

The storm hit Spirit about 10:45 p.m. April 14, while about 200 employees were on site.

They sought shelter as debris blew through the buildings. No one was hurt.

Words can?t describe what Spirit went through, Mike King, Spirit senior vice president and chief operating officer, said last month.

As they went through each building to assess damage, King said he was glad when a building was dark.

?That meant the building had a roof,? King said.

Employees and contractors worked around the clock to get production and operations resumed. Spirit was able to resume some shipments three days after the tornado hit.

Eight days after the storm, all 10,800 Wichita employees were back at work.

Now, temporary fixes that were made to allow the resumption of work need to be replaced with permanent repairs.

Spirit is working with its insurers to determine the applicable deductibles related to property damage and expenses related to the tornado, company officials said.

The costs will be recorded as a severe weather event, and will be excluded from program cost of sales, they said.

Additional expenses will be recognized in future periods as they are incurred.

Offsetting credits will be recognized in future periods as insurance recoveries are confirmed, the company said.

?Our leaders, employees, unions, community and government partners are doing an outstanding job supporting Spirit?s ongoing recovery efforts,? Phil Anderson, Spirit senior vice president and chief financial officer, said in a statement. ?We remain focused on supporting all of our customers from the Wichita facility as we recover from this event and execute the planned growth across the business.?

Homemade vs Store Bought : Ideas for Women Home and Family Blog

Which do you prefer, homemade items or store bought? As far as clothing, etc most of the item I go with store bought but when it comes to food I try to make it all as homemade as I possibly can. The reason behind all of this is because when I control what goes into the food I can control how healthy or unhealthy it is. Many of my friends however worry that making homemade items is much more expensive than buying them at the store.

The truth is that my grocery bill goes up when I stock up on items such as flour and breadcrumbs. When I make pancake mixes for the pantry they end up costing around $2.00 for a mix that will make 24? pancakes. That is of curse breaking down the costs such as pricing the flour by the cup. Every few months I stock up on the items I use the most and this cuts down those costs a bit.

I do admit that their are times when I break down and buy a box of breakfast bars or a loaf of bread because like most mothers I am swamped with work or just tired some days. Those are the days that I feel like the worst mother in the world.
