Prostate Cancer | Natural Treatments & Remedies

There?s plenty of information available on prostate cancer. Although no discussion of cancer is complete without this information, we aren?t going to spend a lot of time on it since it is so well covered already, mostly from a traditional point of view. You need to know that this cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in men, is generally asymptomatic in the early stages, grows relatively slowly and is curable. In late stages, one may experience

  • Weak Urine Flow
  • Burning
  • Blood in Urine
  • Difficulty Urinating

Don?t count on seeing adequate warning signs.

I?ve been told by oncologists that prostate cancer grows so slowly in older men, who make up about two-thirds of the men older than 65 with this diagnosis, that they are more likely to die of old age than prostate cancer. Well, that?s odd, because I have two friends who found prostate cancer in an early stage, chose to be treated by traditional methods and both died. So I have a little trouble with that information. I also know men under these circumstances who recovered and live on. Clearly, there?s no way to make any definitive statements about any kind of cancer yet. As in most diseases, what works for one may not work for all.

According to the American Cancer Society, if you are a man of average risk, you should take a PSA blood test and have an exam starting at age 50. If there is already a family history of this disease, take the exam and PSA test in your mid-forties. This is a curable cancer if caught early so it makes no sense to start being tested in your 50?s when you consider that nearly 30,000 men die each year from prostate cancer. It?s your decision.

What causes prostate cancer? Most likely, there are multiple causes. There?s no question that the environment (see our cancer causes page) is part of the problem. There?s no question that diet is part of the problem. Red meat is loaded with saturated fat ? and saturated fat is just bad for everyone. Family history puts you at risk. Toxins can build up in the prostate due to your environment and personal choices. There?s reason to believe that a lack of adequate circulation due to tight clothing may even contribute. Ethnicity may make one more prone to this cancer. These things, and maybe others, can lead to infections of the prostate or enlarged prostate and these can lead to prostate cancer. Given that fact, it stands to reason that external causes are at work and being knowledgeable about these can give every man a head start on preventing this disease.

Traditional treatments for this cancer are not always successful and they are not the only treatments to consider. If this cancer is the result in large measure of lifestyle choices (smoking, poor diet), toxins leading to infections and lack of proper balance in the body leading to a perfect storm environment for the growth of abnormal cells, then it makes sense to address these external issues. If you are at risk of getting prostate cancer or if you are making some poor choices in your daily life, if you are routinely exposed to toxins in your work or home space, we suggest that you make necessary changes.

See a good naturopathic physician or other expert in natural remedies to detoxify your blood and body on a regular basis. Check out our cancer causes page for additional information. In short, give yourself the best chance of preventing cancer or of curing cancer in a non-toxic way if you are diagnosed. This is a highly personal decision because if you are diagnosed, you will be given choices on the different kinds of treatments. You will have to research non-traditional methods on your own as few doctors address such remedies. We hope you will do that so you have a wealth of information to help with your decision.
