Comparing the CRV and Escape

To get a good overall comparison between the two premium SUVs, let us put the two side by side and look at them in terms of size, engine, aesthetics, comfort, safety, price, luxury, and technology.

1. Size

Escape

The Escape is about 14.84 feet long; having has a height of around 6 feet high and about 5.53 feet in width.

As seen above, both SUVs are almost the same in length, but the Escape is higher but falls short in width compared to the CRV.

2. Engine

CRV

The CRV has a 2.4 liter dual overhead cam i-VTEC in line 4 cylinder having 185 BHP. Numerous nice features are there too like direct ignition system with immobilizer, Multi-Point Programmed Fuel Injection system, and ecological drive assist system that provides nature friendliness and efficiency.

Escape

There is a new concept EcoBoost inline 4-cylinder turbo charged engines under the Escape?s hood and an iVCT version. There are 3 variants for the engine, a 1.6 liter EcoBoost 178 BHP engine, a high power 2.0 liter EcoBoost 240 BHP engine, and finally a 2.5 liter iVCT 168 BHP engine.

The Escape slightly boasts higher horse powered engines. EcoBoost of the Escape allows for more nature friendly emissions, but the CRV promises a reduced emission feature too.

3. Aesthetics

CRV

Overall, the new CRV has a sleeker design with a built in under-body covers for more aerodynamic performance and handling efficiency. Also the design is to reduce impact noise by having greater body rigidity and lighter suspension components with additional noise insulation.

Escape

The Escape veers away from rugged, masculine American design and employed a sleek, stylish and European look which resembles the platform of the 2012 Ford Focus.

Both cars have the typical nice SUV look, and both are sleek and stylish.

4. Comfort

Honda CRV 2012

CRV

As the former CRV models, the new CRV is also very spacious with heated front seats. The rear seats are easily foldable with its split design. For added comfort, there is an innovative dual-zone automatic climate control with air-filtration system. Convenience is achieved too by having cruise controls on the steering wheel and has tilt and telescopic adjustable features for driver?s steering comfort and space.

Escape

The new Escape has more slightly more room particularly in the rear seat for extra comfort. The seat design is much slimmer and lighter, and employs an articulated back to help relieve back pain for passengers.

Both vehicles may offer comfort during ride via the smooth drive train and high quality seats.

5. Safety

CRV

Honda does not let down on the very important safety features as the 2012 CRV has tons of safety features like 3 point seatbelts and pretensioners in the front. The usual 4 wheel automatic braking system with electronic brake distribution and assist are also there for handling safety. Airbags are not missing of course, and for protection against theft, there is a new concept of immobilizer theft deterrent system. Bonus features include tire pressure monitoring system and vehicle stability assist with traction control and many more! A 40mph crash frontal offset crash test was made and Honda is proud to announce that the CRV scored a rating of ?good? for all crash test injury measures. So the CRV is really safe to drive!

Escape

The Escape has the new Torque Vectoring Control and Curve control that allows for more control and speed regulation when driver enters a corner at a dangerous higher than normal speed. The body includes a high strength steel construction and smarter airbags that is accompanied by a system called Personal Safety System that also controls the seatbelts while in a crash for added protection. The safety features will prove themselves after crash tests will be conducted.

Both SUVs offer maximum protection for passengers, but the CRV had tests which clearly and technically conclude its safety against frontal crash.

6. Price

CRV

The CRV has numerous models too and the lowest line LX 2 wheel drive model has an SRP of $25,990, and the top of the line touring model costs $35,090.

Escape

The Escape has variants that are priced at $23,295, $25,895, $28,695, and the luxury Titanium model at $31,195.

In terms of price, both have quite similar price range, but the CRV?s top of the line model costs more than the Escape.

7. Luxury

CRV

The top of the line CRV touring model has a powerful 360 Watts radio with very handy Bluetooth audio support, CD and USB media audio system with 7 speakers including a monster subwoofer. Leather trims for seats are available too, and also a leather-wrapped steering wheel as well.

Escape

The luxurious Escape model is the Titanium. It is equipped with 19?? luster nickel painted alloy wheels. Seats in the Titanium are leather-trimmed, with HID headlamps and reverse sensing system and many other luxury features.

Both cars are luxurious but the Escape offers innovative hands free rear lift gate, and a nice touch screen UI for control which may give the Escape an edge, but the CRV have various features in its luxury model too so it definitely does not trail that much behind the Escape.

8. Technology

CRV

The CRV?s information display is an innovative intelligent multi-information display. A very new powerful and technologically advanced SiriusXM Canada Satellite Radio is available for the best radio system possible in the touring model. A nice innovation too is the automatic dimming rear view mirror for no hassle glare elimination. Headlights may be automatically turned off or on to save power for those forgetful drivers. Detecting outside temperatures is also a feature available, and remote entering system is also there for hands free unlocking of car doors. You can even send and receive SMS texts using the car, and the touring model has the powerful satellite-linked navigation system with advanced bilingual voice recognition system.

Escape

A new innovation for the Escape is the hands-free rear lift gate concept. The key of the car has a built in key fob that is detectable by the car; a sensor will detect the passenger?s presence and will automatically open the left gate. A new high-tech feature is the MyFord Touch, this offers a touch screen UI for features like entertainment and drive safety functionality and performance settings.

But both vehicles are equipped with high tech features either way for safety and ease of driving. Again, the Escape?s lift gate and touch screen based UI are great, but the CRV also boasts great technology like the bilingual voice control system, climate and speed control, satellite radio etc. This may be a draw too, but both are winners in technology innovation!
The Verdict

The overall better choice really depends on the person, as both SUVs are almost at the same price and relatively has similar innovative features. The Escape may have an edge in being eco-friendly and slightly higher horse power engines, but the CX-5 cannot be left behind as it possesses numerous innovative high-tech features too. So the verdict may be a tie for the 2 SUVs. Bottom line is whichever you choose will surely give you a great SUV experience!
