YogaTone - Dare2

?

I?m a die-hard yogi. I discovered it in the early 90?s when I moved to New York City to attend NYU. I became certified to teach yoga in 1997 and a year later also got my ACE personal training certification. I?ve always liked to lift weights in addition to practicing yoga. I?ve found it so helpful to build strength and have proper alignment when holding certain challenging poses such as Chattarunga Dandasana (low tricep push-ups),?Utkatasana?(chair pose or squat) and Handstands.

?

In yoga we use a lot of eccentric, ?pressing? type movements that work the chest, triceps, quads, lateral and medial deltoids.?In weight lifting, we counterbalance that by doing more concentric ?pulling? type movements that focus more on the back, biceps, hamstrings and rear deltoids.

?

Yoga means to unite or to join together. We need to make sure we are balancing out the feminine (YIN) and masculine (YANG) sides of our bodies. When we become overstretched we lose cohesiveness and support in our bodies and lives. When we are over strong, we get too tight and narrow minded in our movement and thinking. Yoga and strength training are the perfect compliments to each other.

YOGATONE!

?

I see many students and yogi?s getting injured nowadays who only do yoga and going in to certain postures without the correct alignment or muscular strength to support themselves. It?s extremely important to be safe and have a long, healthy yoga practice and life. If you are just a yogi, try pumping a little iron. You might really enjoy the benefits you get from it. And if you are only an ?iron? man or woman, give yoga a try?you will see how hard it is and how great of a workout it can be. It will open you up more and give you more strength in the long run.

?

You can alternate strength training days for yoga days or do a strength training circuit followed by some yoga flow, depending on how much time you have. Yogatone brings them both together in one flowing yoga, strength training circuit. We move through and hold various yoga postures while lifting hand weights. I love it if you are short on time or want to get a really great all in one workout.

?

We all want strong back bodies (strength) or back bones so we can be strong in our stance and self; and open front bodies (flexibility) and hearts so we can share our true selves with the world.
